Notes from the President

Ken Hilton - President Red Wing Software

Seeing the severe weather devastation throughout the central United States over the past year tends to put things into perspective. It proves the Minnesota winters aren’t the only thing challenging to handle. Our thoughts and prayers go to all those affected by disaster.
We know that some of our valued customers were directly affected by storms, tornadoes, and hurricanes. As a company, we at Red Wing Software will do what we can to help our affected clients get back to business and resume some sort of normal operations.
If you are subjected to a disaster, we will do whatever we can to help minimize the impact on your business’ recordkeeping tasks. Please call on us if help is needed reinstalling programs or backups or for any other task our support staff can assist with.
This is a good time to remind everyone about the importance of data backups and disaster recovery plans. We can help reinstall your programs, but it’s up to you to have current copies of your data. Please count on the staff at Red Wing Software to help in any way we can.

Employee Spotlight -Tony Crawford

Hi, I am Tony, and I have worked at Red Wing Software since just before the Twins won their last World Series in 1991. My job is to write software and thereby keep QA busy. I strive to write code that somebody just out of college could understand, but I don’t succeed as often as I’d like. I also enjoy making sense of data, usually through reports. I like to read, travel, and write more code when I’m not working. My wife and I just celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary. During our married life, Red Wing Software allowed me to keep my job while we moved from Minnesota to London, New York, Amsterdam, and now beautiful Bucks County, PA. I collect old maps and useless facts about the origins of words, both of which do not lend themselves to engaging dinner conversation. After many years of being dilettantes, some friends and I are working on getting our sommelier certifications, partly as an excuse to try new wines but mainly as an excuse to go to Italy for the final test.

Notes from the President

Ken Hilton - President Red Wing Software

I’ve heard it said that if you genuinely enjoy a job, you’ll never work a day in your life. I hope everyone reading this has the same problem I have: sometimes it’s difficult to remember I have a job, but if you enjoy your job as I do, it doesn’t seem like work.
Pam, my wife, who also works at Red Wing Software, and I recently “worked” at a trade show, representing Red Wing Software in a display booth. I don’t get to do this often, but the show was close to my home, so I was the logical choice, and I enjoyed the assignment. I always have the benefit of enjoying what I do and having a great team of professionals to work with, but I don’t often get to meet and talk with so many wonderful customers over a short period, which was the most rewarding part of this assignment.
I appreciated everyone who stopped by our display to say ‘hi’ and chat. It’s wonderful to hear the compliments about our support staff and how people use our software. Many customers who stopped by have been with us since the 1980s; others are relatively new to the products. While I always appreciate them as customers and the business they give us, they seem more like long-time friends.
I encourage you to look around and enjoy your job and choose never to work a day in your life.

Employee Spotlight

Hi everyone! My name is Jake, and I started working for Red Wing Software in November 2022. I’ve spent the last 12 years working in finance operations but decided to move on from the corporate scene and get back to my roots of directly providing a service to customers. I worked in customer service and sales for about 20 years before finance and enjoyed every minute of it. I’m hoping to find that same satisfaction here at Red Wing Software, and from what I can tell it should be relatively easy to accomplish. My tenure has been short, but I can already tell what a fantastic company this is by the people around me and our vision for serving our customers with excellence. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this team!
I spend my free time watching the Vikings, going on an ATV adventure, casting a fishing rod, playing with my dogs, or hanging out with my grandkids, which is the most rewarding of all. I also enjoy spending time with my parents or any number of my cousins and extended family. Another thing I enjoy is climbing into my 1979 International 886. Don’t get me wrong, I may aspire to be an actual farmer, but all this converted city boy does is run the disc around the field to knock down some weeds and kick up some dirt. This comes in especially handy when my wife tells me she has a project for me, as it gives me an escape and a couple of hours of serenity. Although I will miss my IH dearly, I am considering moving on from plowing dirt and potentially swapping it out for a skid steer. I still may not know what I am doing, but it gives me another loud diesel to crank up as I’m about to get a new assignment from my wife.
I am looking forward to speaking with you and hope to lend a helping hand when needed.
